Creating Lead Magnets Using Your WordPress Site

WordPress is one of the most sought-after platforms for bloggers of all professional levels.

There’s a good reason for this. Not only is it one of the original modern blog hosting platform giants, but it’s evolved with the times. Its tools are easy to use, its platform offers advanced options for eCommerce customers, and it makes google optimization simple. However, to make money as a WordPress blogger or eCommerce provider, you need people to come to your sites. Luckily, WordPress websites have some pretty foolproof ways to find and convert leads using lead magnets.

1. Settle On A Lead Magnet That Works For Your Website

A lead magnet is a simple way for people searching sites to find their way to yours. It’s a free download/newsletter/service/ etc., which gives a resource to someone who is likely looking for that sort of resource. For example, a good lead magnet for a WordPress site catering to bloggers might be a free eBook about starting a blog.

Lead magnets are about quid pro quo. In other words, visitors don’t just get to come to the site and leave with a free eBook. You might have them sign up for an email newsletter, sign up for site notifications, or some other action that innately helps them remember your site. When a potential customer completes the action you’ve set up to get that free thing, you’ve just created a lead!

2. Create & Upload Your Lead

After you’ve figured out what you want your lead magnet to be, you will create that magnet and upload it to your WordPress site or another digital platform.

Importantly, you’ll want to make sure that your lead magnet is hidden from google so that not just anyone can find it. This is a little trickier to do on other sites, but on WordPress, it’s relatively easy. You can password protect a page, which allows users with access to a password (which you give out) to access that page.

3. Install A Plugin Which Works For Your Needs

WordPress is, thankfully, easy to use for beginners. So, there’s no need to panic when you see the words “create a plugin.” WordPress provides tools to find and install a range of cooperative form plugins, which are what generate lead magnet popups.

Simply click the plugin tab on your WordPress dashboard and pick from various plugins for creating newsletter signups, eBook download popups, and more. From there, you will be able to customize the  form to your needs. Most plugins available on WordPress are easy to integrate and offer detailed instructions for getting your form up and running.

4. Embed Your Plugin Form On Your Site

Most plugin templates are relatively easy to use. They’ll give you the option to embed them on your website after reviewing the form itself to make sure it fits your site’s needs. Once you’ve checked everything out and made sure it works, you can usually publish your changes and wait for leads to roll in!

When you set up lead magnets, it’s essential to have metrics set up that can track your leads’ efficacy. Metrics will tell you what works and what doesn’t, as well as provide you with insight as to when a lead magnet has stopped being as effective as it once was. You’ll eventually need to provide leads with new magnets as customer interest continually shifts.

Why Use A Lead Magnet?

Traffic is essential for online businesses, whether eCommerce, influencer blogs, or even just a place to showcase your original art and ideas. Regardless of your WordPress site’s ambitions, if you’re not working on the same level as your closest competition, you’re risking losing eyes on your blog. Lead magnets are very effective marketing tools that cost little up front but can be highly beneficial in the long term.
